Whats Inside Your Pizza Box ?
Published on Jun 10, 2015When you open a pizza box, what do you see? This is the real story behind cheese.
Cows produce milk for the same reason that humans do: to make their babies grow big and strong. But cows on dairy farms will never get the chance to do that. Instead, calves are generally taken away from their mothers within a day of being born—males are destined for veal crates or barren lots where they'll be fattened for beef, and females are sentenced to the same fate as their mothers.
Mother cows are then hooked up, several times a day, to milking machines. These cows have been genetically manipulated, artificially inseminated, and often drugged to force them to produce about four and a half times as much milk as they naturally would to feed their calves.
A cow's natural life span is about 25 years, but cows used by the dairy industry are killed after only four or five years. Their bodies are turned into soup, dog food, or low-grade hamburger meat. They're too "spent" to be used for anything else.
